But the sad fact is that many audiophiles try to " cover up " for bad
recordings, believing that the digital harshness comes from thier "
inferior" dac,cdp or whatever ?

If we remove the obviusly loudness war and digitally clipped modern
records from the equation

Imho audiable digital artifacts should not be present in modern
recordings of today the introduction of oversampling ADC and dither
noise fixed that in the 90's .

How many of you are aware that dither enhances the resolution beyond
the mere bits to the power of two math, you trade benign noise for more
resolution, you can detect signals < 96dB in 16 bit dithered content.

24bit dithered signals are practically perfect analogue signals ;)
