Okay so I did an A/B/C test on the song "Losing My Religion" where A
was my very clean vinyl copy, B was my 24/96 version (ripped from a
DVD-Audio disc) and C was my 16/44.1 version (ripped from a CD). My
vinyl playback is on a Linn LP12 with a Grado Reference cartridge and a
Grado phono preamp, the digital playback is via a Transporter (wireless
but with a rock solid signal). Sim Audio pre and power amps and
Vandersteen speakers with lots of fancy wires, dedicated power circuits
and other assorted audiophile mumbo jumbo.

The results: both the vinyl and the 24/96 sounded slightly better than
the CD version. The CD version was flatter and the bass was a little
washed out. Mind you this was all very unscientific and highly
suggestive. All three versions sounded very good but I would give the
edge to the 24/96 or the vinyl over the CD.
