The REM Out of Time DVD-A is 24/192 ( I have it ). Compared to the standard redbook CD (I have the original "first issue") I find that the mastering is superior. It is much easier to follow the words for example and the drums sound cleaner. The mixdown is the same, as others have reported.
Obviously the 24/192 is being downsampled to 24/96 via SOX when listening on the Touch. Downsampled manually from 24/192 to 16/44.1 via SOX it sounds identical and still better than the original redbook release,. The mastering is simply better. I put this down to the availability of better quality equipment in the mastering studio and of course the ears+skill of the mastering engineer.
