The rega DAC is from a reputable stable brand :) If you want to try DAC's try other reputable brands thats been in the bussines for a while .
Avoid strange contraptions like NOS-dac's without any filters or similar . There seems to pop up a new chinese made DAC every week to cash in on the popularity of separate DAC they all look the part, but makes and old skeptic like me ,well sort of skeptical. They all get very good reviews online ? all seems to meet a very attractive price point that the usual suspects having a hard time to meet ? The XTC amp makes me similarly skeptical. >From their site * Distortion: < 0.03% (20Hz to 20kHz, *10W*) And it's an 110W (or 50W class A ) amplifier they are hiding something :-/ and it is cheap ? looks like more Chinese mock-up hifi to me ? Having typical attributes like "class -A" and heavy aluminum chassis to attract audiophiles. The XTC will probably sound "different". I think your arcam-A85 is a more accurate amp and a good one. If you speakers are a bit insensitive you may simply need more power to have cleaner sound especially if the room is well damped . If it's sound a bit strained at higher volume levels ? -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
