This is a bit of circular reasoning what to listen to if it is
transparent ?

You can set up an an abx to a known ref to make sure you can't hear it
or do a null test with before and after listening . You can even do
that with power amps you divide the output-voltage down with resistors
and level match with the input compare both in abx with another power
amp and speakers (the amp under test drives a load)

And I do think even makers of transparent stuff must do listening test
just to verify that no gremlins are sneaking into the design process .

But their be no tweaking of prat or midrange bloom ar micro-details
these are all in the recording (or not).

This is weird some give hifi equipment all kinds of emotional bias and
think they are part of the content .

When we buy a TV we look at the color rendering and resolution and a
lot of other tech parameters like clouding on big lcd's .

Not if the starving third world children on the news looks sadder or if
the girls looks prettier or if a play looks more dramatic we accept that
this is the content speaking to us ? the window is not the view.

An ? they are sure stuck in the past they are still building those
tarted up snell replicas as speakers ?

I had the snell-E in some variant 22 years ago it was ok back then not
very neutral a bit boxy sounding but a fun speaker lively nothing I
would chose today
