I was thinking about the topic.

Why there is no more thorough deconstruction of specific
products/claims.

1. The level of disinformation is close to 100% almost the whole audio
press are into to the scam or fooled by it, you cant get through. so it
is futile to even try

2. The claims by voodoo hifi designers are so ridiculous that no
serious person is going to spend any time debunking it as it is
"obvious" bs .

I think not, there are so many lay person interested in hifi that some
basic well known facts should be repeated now and then for educational
purpose the "obvius" is not always obvius.

And exemplification by in detail examine a bogus product and why it
does not work is a good way to get to the point .

For example amps with high output impedance and low power can't really
drive speakers and the fact that some amps needs "special" speakers
should make you get the obvious conclusion about these amps real
performance .

And we are again back in the state of affairs we was in the 60-70's as
many products now have performance we thought we left behind in the
past .

So sadly even the crude and incomplete measurements used then would
expose these products .

This will be the most long lived audio myth of them all .
because in the 70's we used the simple thd at 1kHz in to a simple
resistor to rate amps often at the 1% and other simplifications this is
marketing bollocks so they hit us with fine numbers on stuff that really
was no good ok. Especially driving real speakers.
So in reality these things did not measure well .

So there really is no measure well but sound bad products just bad
measurements ! just look at the noise levels for example.

But modern amps are designed with the total performance in mind data
is done with 20-20kHz measurement at rated low level of thd which is
better.
But in the background there are much more test regarding stability and
other factors.
So modern products with todays simplified data set presented in
marketing are much better with the exception of some HT products where
we again see a kind of spec war, often to high power figures . The
specs in papers are still incomplete but they are not a coincidence but
often a consequence of otherwise good engineering .
An ADM or other null tests would be better .

This is a background to why some people just disregard the technical
performance completely :-/

But you can go about it the other way if a cult design has 3% thd and 8
watt power and other issues this is a major problem even if the x
factors they claims to fix really existed !

So it does not matter how much silver you have in the cables if you
still have 3% thd or 2 ohm output impedance .

So we should start looking at products that at least are better than
our thresholds for detecting these problems .
Again this should not really be a problem 2012 but as shown by audio
note you can get 1950's performance for your money :-/
