I'm listening in the exact same position; my head is around 30 cm (a
foot) from the wall. I installed an acoustic panel (25 mm thick) just
behind. I'm using an Apex mike, omnidirectional (nearly all those mikes
are made from the same W61 Panasonic capsule), pointed between the
loudspeakers. In my system the sound is more focused (centered) with
the DRC correction than without!
What I'm saying is that the near wall position is not the cause for the
focus problem, nor is the omnidirectional mike. I never heard that
somebody has used a cardioid mike for speaker measurements, but I'm not
an expert. Look at those results, same behaviour for all of them,
Behringer is good enough. http://www.realtraps.com/art_microphones.htm
, read carefully, the mikes curves ARE flat, the measured source is
not.

A word about my system, it is a 5 way system, tapped subwoofer horn,
two direct bass drivers and horns for medium and highs, digitally
crossed and time aligned BEFORE the DRC application. This system is
TOTALLY flexible, even too much since I'm able to obtain the best or
the worst depending of my errors. A typical error would be a phase
inversion on one channel, DRC cannot correct that, the obtained filter
is wrong and the sound becomes unfocused, not in phase. DRC has its
limits.

Evdplancke, what speakers are you using? Try different mike
orientations. Check the impulse response, are both channels similar?
Ask Brent from Audiolense, send him your measurements. With Audiolense
it is rather easy to get good filters compared to the DRC itself. It
takes me 5 minutes ;-)
