OK, so I feel like a kid wandering into a Ferrari showroom to discuss
tricycles, but what the hell...

My "main HiFi" is nothing special -- a Touch, an old Limit turntable, a
Marantz amp and a pair of Monitor Audio speakers -- but it's good enough
for the ears of a whacked-out bass player. I recently bought a small,
very cheap ICS media player from China with the intention of turning it
into a Squeezebox; overall, this little project went way better than
expected, but the analog out isn't very good. I thought I'd try using
the digital out instead, and this is why I'm here. First time DAC user
alert!

Amazon have the FiiO D3, the Neet and the Cablesson SAP-3 for less than
30 quid, and also the Lindy at about 35. They all look similar, and
according to specs do pretty much the same job. The small number of
reviews I've been able to find concentrate on the hardware rather than
the sound, so aren't much use. Does anyone have any advice about which
of these things to buy, mostly for messing about and testing the
"Shenzbox"? Ta.
