Really?

So for some strange, as yet unexplained reason, digital technology works
differently when applied to digital audio. Whereas a $5 HDMI versus a
$200 HDMI yields no difference in the quality of the signal and picture
sent from a Blu-Ray player to an HDTV, a $5 USB cable versus a $200 USB
cable yields orders of magnitude improvements in the digital audio data
stream send from a computer to DAC. Odd

Or a high resolution digital audio downloaded from HDTracks to one's
computer and transmitted via and through hundreds of cables and
switches, packets, etc. somehow loses quality when one then converts the
file to another lossless format. Again, odd.

And please stop mixing up the engineers and designers who work for the
high end audio manufacturers with the PR people and the shills who write
for the high end audio magazines - they ARE NOT one and the same.

Just for the record, I've been an active member of this forum for over 5
years and I've seen many other members come and go. Every so often a
member comes along touting all the usual high end audio dogma and more
often than not other members do their best to dissuade that member from
these senseless beliefs. Sometimes we succeed and sometimes those
members get fed up with having to point out simple FACTS to these "true
believers" and those members simply give up and find another forum to
join.

It's not that we think that all amplifiers sound alike or that all DACs
sound alike but rather that we think that when there differences or even
perceived differences between pieces of equipment, files, etc. that our
time not be wasted assigning the differences to reasons that just cannot
be. If two USB cables "sound" different then the differences lie not
with the cables but somewhere else and unless we outline a clear set of
ground rules then we will never figure out if and why there are
differences.

Finally customers of high end audio are no more discerning than
customers of any other products, just try to listen to some of the
terrible music that passes for audiophile nirvana. Not to mention $3,000
power cords.
