Archimago, I believe I can hear the difference between different cables
(not just damaged toslink). I haven't blown kilobucks on cables, but I
have quite a few expensive cables in my system, if that is what you are
asking. I had a lot of sceptics in my house that change their view on
cable subject, but I am not trying to convince anyone in one way or the
other. The only reason I posted on this forum is to admit you have done
a nice job measuring equipment and I wanted to point out the limitations
of your sound card. 
Now anyone can try to simulate jitter for free by pulling toslink cable
out of the jack with DAC locked to the signal. I should patent this  and
have Monster build toslink cables with variable focus length :o.
