As I understand re transient controll if you loose the series impedance
of the filter components and bolt the amp, directly to the drivers all
that damping factor the amp provides can do its thing much better , an
analogy would be like towing something with a rubberband ( passive
filter ). The back emf from the driver just "shorts out" via the almost
zero impedance of the amp and the driver stops when the signal stops ,
less transient ringin . Unless we have a bass reflex speaker then some
of that is unavoidable even in an active design . If you put a single
transient pulse to a driver it usually don't just do that pulse it
wobbles about a while after .

An active design can also choose a different bass reflex alignment that
requires filter assistance below the port frequency ,this is also
unpractical in passive speakers .

This well behaved transient controll can be behind the reputation active
designs have for sounding dry no bloom or boom and as most people never
had heard anything else and are used to more colourfull speakers they
get a surprise and may think it is something wrong ?
