I found them quite easily. Of course I'm shopping from the US, a country
that aggressively uses trade alliances to benefit its citizens with low
costs for high tech gear. 

Jabs aside I checked the situation in the UK out and found that some of
the same suppliers I use do business in the UK with a pricing structure
that is not dissimilar from the US. 

I find that some audiophiles say that they believe that there is a
necessary correlation between price and quality, and that low cost
products can't possibly sound  any good. For them, buying overpriced
audio gear is something that they brag about. It shows their devotion to
audio as denominated what they understand best, not technology but
aggressive spending.

It is possible that the RCA jacks in question are poorly made, or are
being abused during set up.

That's one approach to keeping consumer prices artificially high.
Another approach is to abandon functioning trade alliances, just to
mention a hypothetical situation... ;-)
