Are you sure it's not a network issue? You might want to try wireless if you are using a wired connection. (or vice versa). I have never heard of this problem.
The PSU is for more than just the screen. The number one issue that the Transporter's posses is not turning on -at all- after about 5 to 10 years of use. Some can posses odd symptoms before they get to their inert state. In most cases, this PSU solves it.
