Some of it is snake oil. The issue is telling the difference between stuff that's genuinely well made with a purpose attached to it, and the stuff where they just added a glossier logo and doubled the price knowing full well they are just grabbing more money for NO REASON. Trouble is it's genuinely hard to tell the difference between these two conditions, so a lot of people have simply given up trying, and I do understand that view point.
