Rolf, > a simple no to a very controversial development is enough for you to > toss 1/3 of pilots out of our sport?
The 1/3 was a number that YOU plucked out of the air as part of your FUD and general fear mongering that the negative team resorts to because you have no logical argument. One can only guess at how you came to the conclusion that some 700 pilots would leave the sport because other pilots choose to increase their pilot qualifications. Those in favour are not asking or expecting every pilot to apply for their RPL rating, merely those that feel that it would be to their benefit to do so. As has been pointed out to you repeatedly, the need for an instructional system remains and therefore pilots will continue to be able to operate under the supervision of an instructor if they choose to do so. Furthermore it has also be pointed out that clubs are free to decide who flies from their airfield and when, even if that person holds a licence for the space shuttle! You on the other hand demand that every pilot remain tied to a restrictive system that denies even a pilot with an ATL the ability to operate a glider on that licence. Your position is worse than selfish, you deny other pilots the right to obtain higher qualifications or use those qualifications if they already have them, and make fear mongering statements about how this will be the destruction of gliding. Never mind the fact that the over paternal culture that you support has driven some 3000 pilots out of gliding since the late 70's. (Well if you can make unsubstantiated claims, so can I!) And incidently I met yet another two pilots last weekend flying ultralights who used to fly gliders but gave it away because of the "grumpy old men" like you. So quite frankly Rolf if you and your ilk leave the sport because I choose to better myself and obtain a rating on my licence which allows me to operate my motor glider on Fridays then I'll be cheering all the way to the airfield. I don't seek to restrict your choosen method of flying, why do you seek to restrict mine?
