The last yellow
worked amazingly well so here it goes again -
sorry
Microair radio which start to show Chinese
characters on LCD screen
Now that I have your attention with this yellow here goes again.
While at Camden last weekend I saw this problem again in the DG1000 If you
also have this problem it would be best to fix before further use. The problem
is caused by the EPROM legs not making good contact with its socket.
Now it is something owners could fix rather than return the radio as it is a
matter of reseating the EPROM. A person used to exchanging proms could do
the job. There is an excellent Service Bulletin 03 from Microair with
detailed photos and drawings and I would rather you ask for a copy of
same. If desperate 1. remove cover (have a good fitting X
screwdriver as they can be real tight) and 2. locate the square EPROM at the
back of the LCD display. 3 Remove this IC with a remover using appropriate
static earthing. 4. All the leg loops need to come out further from the
side of EPROM so it all makes contact again. 5 Replace EPROM and
cover and job is done.
Remember I would prefer if you were to get SB-03 and I will try and put
same on my web site but I have it available by email.
Think most of the Icom boom mics have had their mic inserts replaced
with better insert.
That's all
