G'Day,
To anyones knowledge, (both here in Australia, and overseas) has anyone ever used a Cessna 150 or TigerMoth for Towing?
As far as I'm aware, the early days of Bathurst Soaring Club (mid '60's on..) used Monty Cotton's Tiger Moth as their standard launch vehicle. Originally sharing the airport at Raglan and now at the current location at Piper's Field at Eglinton where we don't have enough strip length to do winch launches. From this you could extrapolate that it had a fairly short take off run, even fully encumbered.
;)
(These are very low power acft and available very cheaply)...
This then leads on to the question, if an aircraft is able to be fitted with a hook, how does one work out the engine power requirement? Is it a hit and miss affair? Or is there a calculation that can be done?
Sorry, can't help with that question.
Regards,
