Anybody else see the rather confudsed news item the other night where it
appears that the jet airliner industry has invented the final glide computer?
It got confused with head up displays a;lso being introduced in airliners.

Seems they want to go to flight idle at top of descent and only bring up
power as they stabilise on short final. Seems it will save fuel, less noise
for residents near airports etc compared to dragging in at high power at
low altitude form some way out which seems to happen every time I go
anywhere in an airliner.

Good effects are that the descent path will be steeper and closer to the
airport so less need for controlled airspace. The ATC people are allegedly
cooperating. I'm amazed they haven't thought of some "good" reason why this
shouldn't happen.
