Why is it that in newsgroups that discussion on a topic so often seems to degenerate into a slanging match?

It commonly seems to happen after about 3 or 4 posts on a particular topic, and the tone and worth of the messages goes down like a spin turning into a spiral dive from there on.

Surely we are trained to observe the onset of the incipient and take recovery action with minimum loss of height?

Hmm ........

I'm not sure that the last part of that sentence mightn't be seen as a disturbing example of 'mindless slagging' in itself Graeme.

I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong  ;-)
