Why is it that in newsgroups that discussion on a topic so often seems to degenerate into a slanging match?   It commonly seems to happen after about 3 or 4 posts on a particular topic, and the tone and worth of the messages goes down like a spin turning into a spiral dive from there on.   Surely we are trained to observe the onset of the incipient and take recovery action with minimum loss of height?
