Jim/Mark

Having just recently gone to the optometrist with my kids, and deciding to
get a check-up myself, I discovered I have mild astigmatism (unequally curved
eye optics that give a slight blur). I've had it all my life it sees, but
only when the optometrist put me through the paces, switching all those
lenses around in that contraption they put in front of your eyes, did I
really notice how much better my vision could be.

The question of what to do when flying and driving came up - and I decided to
go for convertible glasses with a magnetic clip-on pair of polaroid lenses
that are fitted in front of the prescription lenses.

So now I have "six-eyes" instead of four when wearing glasses while
driving/flying.

They seem to work very well and the magnets are sufficiently strong that the
polaroid lenses do not come off when performing high-G maneouvres like loops.

I was also warned against those "Transitions" lenses they advertise on TV -
it seems that while they change tint depending on the light level, it is
triggered by the UV intensity rather than that of the visible wavelengths,
and since most modern cars have slightly polarised glass, they actually don't
work very well when driving (which was never really explained in the TV ads)

Cheers
