I think that is just coincidence but I may be wrong. I find that under
certain circumstances even bluetooth can be picked up on an amplifier.
The problem with GSM is that the protocol has propagation delay limits
built-in which limit cell radius to a bit over 30km regardless of how
powerful your transmitters are.
