Hi Ian,
I beg to differ, Led Zepplin did stairway to heaven, Fred Hoinville did
Halfway to heaven, both good in there own rights, absolute classics, much
as
you are .

Yes the tapes are still available. The content has the plank flying at
Moorabin and other films including Queer Birds ( A tape of gliding with
the
VMFG at Berwick) and the T-31 10,000th flight. Let me know if you want
one,
$17:00 each. Postage included.
The Plank at Benalla is now in the care of the Australian Gliding Museum
who
have refurbished the airframe and it is ready to be painted. A truly
wonderful restoration but not to flying condition. I have recollections
of
the people talking about the Plank when I was a kid and remember the GFA
being very anti the design. The AV-36 was better accepted and there were
2
of them built. As far as we know there are the remains of 3 Planks still
in
existance. The one with the Museum, one in WA and the remains of one in
Melbourne. We don't know where the AV-36's are. It would be great to get
one
for the Museum.
Allan Ashs' book has some good reading along with Fred Hoinvilles
Stairway
to Heaven. The thing about flying wings is that they are seen as the
answer
to reducing drag and therefor must be good. Hasn't seemed to have really
worked in reality. Harry Shneider produced the Light weight and small
Gnome
in response to the Plank but no clubs or individuals were really
interested.
Cheers all.
