Adam,

Australian handicaps and rules haven't changed. The only thing we are
using the IGC rules for is to determine eligibility of gliders.

Winglets, reference weights, ballasting rules etc are all staying the

So I looked up the FAI list of eligible gliders.

The list includes D40,BS1,D36,FK3,SB8,B12, Falkon,SB12, AFH24,AK5,Mue26,LS2,D37,SB7,D38,Mue22b, PajnoV1/2(what the hell is that? - OK it is an Italian amateur built kit sailplane, couldn't find any pictures of one though)

These are all prototypes or very low numbers built. Clearly there was no intention to keep gliders off this list as long as the performance resulted in a handicap that fitted in the band.

The FAI handicaps range from 0.96 to 1.07. Clearly also, the people responsible for the list understand that handicapping will only work over a relatively narrow band of performance. Just a shade over 10% in this case.

This list makes the GFA decision on Club Class eligibility look even sillier than it did before.
