Heh, I actually mentioned a float glider in my glider trivia at Waikerie last year. The one I used was called the Glider Boat (Imaginative,eh?). It was built in the 1930's, wood & fabric of course, with steel ribs. It had a T tail (the elevator was scarily close to the water) and was biplane. Twin seater (tandem I believe) with a max L/D of 15:1 =) Launched behind a motorboad with a bridle setup.
Quoted direct from the sailplane directory: *The Peel Glider Boat Company of Flushing Bay, NY was in business around 1930, designing and building the Glider Boat, a biplane glider with stepped flying boat hull and wingtip floats. A number of examples were sold. The two occupants sat in tandem in an open cockpit with conventional controls, but without instruments. Normal method of launch was behind a motor boat, the towrope being joined to a bridle which attached to either side of the nose outside the front cockpit. One example belongs to the National Soaring Museum.* I would love to be the pilot that gets to tell his mates that he did a "boat launch" in a glider =D Dion 2008/4/29 Christopher Mc Donnell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Explorer PG-1 Aqua Glider USA > > Flight Dynamics Seasprite USA > > >From Gliders & sailplanes Of The World Michael Hardy 1982 > > T'would be fun but to fly a B.........k (did'nt say it did I :-) > )operating > on the optional snow skis. > > Chris McDonnell > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Texler, Michael" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia." > <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, April 29, 2008 1:02 PM > Subject: [Aus-soaring] Float glider? > > > > All this discussion about landing in water begs the question (somewhat > > tongue firmly planted in cheek): > > > > Has there ever been a float glider developed? > > > > > > I will run away and hide now! ;-) > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Aus-soaring mailing list > > [email protected] > > To check or change subscription details, visit: > > http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring > > > _______________________________________________ > Aus-soaring mailing list > [email protected] > To check or change subscription details, visit: > http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring > -- <timmo> you know what i hate <timmo> errors that wont go away <Guilty> So you dislike children too
