I guess the current concern about water has infiltrated everyone's thinking. (I'm sure you mean DAMNED ).

I'd rather have cynical bastards who are in it for the money, employed by CASA than true believers saving Australian aviation from the forces of darkness.
The first are easier to deal with and likely susceptible to rational argument.

If the true believers are now frustrated with their jobs why don't they leave and get other jobs? The unemployment rate is low although the pay may not be quite as good as it is at CASA. As a great philosopher once said -"don't worry about the money, just adjust your lifestyle to suit, the important thing is to enjoy your work as you spend so much time at it"(Brig. Gen. Charles E. Yeager USAF (retd.) - he's famous for a few other things also)

As for the political interference, that is a feature not a bug. Whatever gave your friends the idea that they should be able to do as they please at the regulator without political oversight? That has been the number one problem in Australian aviation all along. The regulator gets its powers from the politicians in the first place.

As for people "who have agendas to push and know how to push them", that is how our system works and the "well connected few" could only do what they did because they had a lot of grass roots support and were quite clear and public about the problems they saw and what their solutions were.

I still want to know how the ATC union managed to mangle the only decent airspace system we ever had.

The regulators position is a difficult one

Dammed if they do - Dammed if they don't

Like many of you I have many friends and colleagues who work for CASA,
all of them work there because when they started they believed they could
and would make a professional contribution to the Australian aviation community.

Unfortunately most of these same people are now frustrated with their jobs because they know they have not been able to serve the best interests of the aviation industry at large because of the political interference of a well connected few who have agendas to push and know how
to push them.
