I hear its common practice to use a rego that is close to the one you have for
airports with landing fees.
It would be a very interesting exercise to audit the airservices system to
determine accuracy, then again maybe its a tin of worms we dont want to open.
Personaly i think the RAA have it right, they dont recognise numbers due to
military use. Hard to charge a Herc doing circuits in the dark with no navaids.
Maybe that why the T18 gets away with it, smart if you ask me.

Nothing has changed in YCHT a pilot recently called Thorp T18 for downwind 06
then banged it in , broken prop and bent main strut, CASA now involved. To make
matters worse he had no licence.
I regularly get billed for Mascot and Bankstown for MLZ

In my General Aviation hour building days, one of my boss's made me make calls
into other aerodromes prefixed like this... "Charter Towers traffic, Papa Alpha
32, 10miles to the East inbound on decent through 3500, circuit area four zero,
traffic Charters Towers" Just so he could dodge a landing fee.. I've got no
doubt that an operator would've asked his pilot to operate under HDY one day,
alternatively the voice recorder genuinely mis-heard the rego. WPP> From:
