In the Northern Territory, the police have a higher incidence of
domestic violence, mental illness, and homosexuality than the general
demographic. Then they give these people guns. This group is then
charged with performing a check on the population to pass judgment that
in 'their' opinion, people are not unsuitable to be allowed near kids.
In the '70's in Queensland the famous Constable Dave was the face of the
police up there. Turns out he was a proper bad pedophile.
Don't shoot me; just pointing out the reality.

I reckon slow flying tug pilots are a far worse threat to the gliding
population (especially the kiddies)...

Goodonya Gavin.

I was required to provide a police check for a volunteer organisation
recently. Interest died instantly.
My wife was also asked by an organisation she has done voluntary work
for, for many years. Instant resignation.
It really has begun to go too far when you feel your reputation has to
be impugned in areas where the risks are minimal.
No problems with it in a (very) few areas though.

Sorry Bernard, I'm not sufficiently interested in this pc bullshit (good
for beaurocrats and harmless to paedophiles) to bother until the arm
twisting begins. I already have to do this in the UK as an instructor
and in the NT as a registered teacher. Dunno about NZ yet, I'll find out
when I get there in December. Dont be so helpful...it only encourages
the b....'s. (beaurocrats?).
Gavin.
