First of all I must stress that I'm dealing with the FAI Sporting Code here, not rules that I or GFA have devised. Please bear with me and don't shoot the messenger - I am trying to do my best. The Sporting Code is quite specific about what a "barograph" is, and how to calibrate it, and in fact this hasn't changed under the new arrangements. Calibration requires a comparison to ISA in a pressure chamber done by an accredited calibration lab. Possible in many cases I expect, but that is for you and the calibration lab to negotiate J More difficult maybe, is that for evaluating a flight Beryl will need the data in an IGC file with a security record on it, otherwise there is no way she can sensibly deal with the data. I know that the Hang Gliding folk have programs that download and store Garmin data in IGC files with a G record, but I don't know if they deal similarly with the pressure sensor data. Because of the way the Sporting Code has been written I have to evaluate these devices on a model by model basis and issue an approval for each. There will be no such thing as a Position recorder approval for "all Garmins" or even "all Garmins with pressure sensors". For this reason it's hard to make general statements, and I'll need to have a specific request. Because of the work involved, I do ask that you only request approval if there's a genuine need (say a club who have a number of similar units). In many cases it is going to be a lot easier for all concerned to lend your budding Silver C pilot a Volkslogger...
