Thanks Macca,Now go draw the graph without suppressing the zero and you'll see it doesn't look nearly as dramatic as you think.
Graph drawn with real zero shown, attached.That's one of the little tricks people use when drawing graphs to make a point. It helps show the shape of the area of interest but you've always got to check the units and the zero point. The tricks don't work on people with elementary science educations if they were paying attention in class.
An x - y graph probably isn't the best way to illustrate this point anyway. Really a series of polar graphs should be used.
