Yes, you are missing something.

The IGC spec is actually a suggestion, not a requirement.

In order to provide all the EW functionality, all 8 wires on the Ethernet RJ connector are used (yeah it isn't Ethernet either) and it is impossible to comply with the IGC wiring standard.

Unfortunately there are a very limited number of types of compact, cheap, easy to assemble and use, multiway miniature connectors available.

We use the same connectors in the B400/B500 systems. In our case there's nothing powered up that you can plug in by mistake (power is on SOCKETS or screw terminals as it really ought to be) and our pins 1 and 2 and 7 and 8 happen to comply with the IGC polarity standard. I can assure you that this was accidental.

2) There is no such thing as a "FLARM cable" or "FLARM connector".
FLARM has never shipped any assembled cables.

You define the connections and connector on the cable required to power the FLARM or use data from it. This makes that cable in the aircraft a "FLARM" cable in my book even though you may not ship it.

Upon some further investigation: DON"T PLUG a VOLKSLOGGER cable into an EW either.
