Realistic for some, but perhaps not all and if that's the case, will it work?

The battery drain of modern moving map instruments in a sailplane is
quite high but most modern sailplanes out of the factory have solar
panels. It's possible over here to finish a flight with more in the
batteries than you started.

With modern gliders getting heavier all the time, a few extra
batteries don't really matter. Most SLGs have four or five of them.

However, this doesn't apply to older gliders where adding more
batteries and solar cells may not be easy, cheap or even possible.
Also more batteries = more electricity and wiring and possible causes
for a fire. It may not make a lot of sense to add $2000+ of cost to a
$20,000 glider. So it's probably a big argument.
