Try CASR part 45.

Also I dont know if GFA still has an exemption but this would seem to make comp numbers or letters a non compliance and certainly those gliders who use the last two letters of a registration such as LTY and omit the L are not in compliance. Only those with Golf reggos are allowed to do that. Also font's other than prescribed are illegal, so are light grey etc etc, see CASR part 45.

This might be relevant. CASR Part 45 (volume 2 if you look for it via the CASA website)

        (c) in any other case as given in the following table.
Minimum heights of characters in markings on certain kinds of aircraft
Column 1
Item Column 2
Kind of aircraft Column 3
Minimum height (mm)
1Rotorcraft300
2Glider75
3Airship500
4Manned free balloon500

CASA has re written this in the last 3 years. I did phone them when I was refinishing the BD-4 3 years ago. The CASA bloke admiitted the then existing regs on this were in his words " a horse's arse". Only that reg, I wondered?

This doesn't seem like much of an improvement and appears to differ from the GFA manual. Quel surpise!

Is there still some reason for GFA to exist?

Anybody figure out how many sets of markings you need on a glider according to CASA?
