Wing root is not easily observed from the cockpit.  Camera on the fin or
tailplane would likely get a good view.

However I am told that it is not legal to attach anything to the outside of
an aircraft (without approval).
How about asking for a temporary Experimental Certificate for the testing.
That could provoke some interesting or useful results.
