That wasn't the intent - there was an alternation, either the first
token (which is always subject to alias lookup) or one that follows
tokens that have ended the previous command (etc) so we're starting a
new one.
Geoff's "if any" accomplished much thge same thing.
Howeverm I don't pretend to be good at writing clear text, the more
important part was what came after, not that part.
