And because I do not like to wait until that time, I believe that there is a need to be able to check whether a shell hides "." and ".." from the glob results. See also the note from Harald van Dijk. In the 1980s (before there has been POSIX), a new concept in UNIX usually has been either copied in versions from other companies within a few years or that idea in general was not accepted. Now, in a time where things should even be easier because we have OpenSource, it seems to become harder and harder to get an agreement within a reasonable amount of time. Without proposals from the OpenGroup, it seems that usable progress will not happen in certain areas because the authors of the various implementations use incompatible design for enhancements.
