Unfortunately it is a temporary fix. When I split the paragraph in half to
create a new step the numbering disappears altogether and you have to keep
renumbering and right clicking to renumber from the start. Surely this is a
bug?
If it is a bug, it is in the way the numbering styles have been created. (Personal opinion) If we are going to use different numbering styles for different levels of an outline, why hasn't someone created a single numbering style with the same properties for each level? From my viewpoint, we should only need two numbering styles (123, abc, and iii) can be replaced with one style. When I first wrote the Introducing Base chapter for the Base Guide, I created such a single numbering style. It was so much easier to work with than the numbering styles we use now. There may be an old copy of it somewhere in the Base3 folder. I have gone through the chapter since then replacing my style with the OOO numbering styles. Here is another personal opinion: it would be at least a minor pain to replace the OOO numbering styles with a single style. Perhaps using FIND, one could do so.

Can anyone help me. I'm trying to update the Calc Guide (Ch7) and want to
use numbering but the set OOo styles for some reason aren't working. I
started with OOONum 123 Start, had the cont and then end.

Now I'm starting a new list and it is just continuing from the previous
list... How annoying! Does anyone have a remedy for this?

Hello Claire,

Right click on the first item in the new list and select the option
"Restart Numbering". That should do the trick.

If I find some time I have somewhere on the computer an OOoAuthors keyboard
layout and if I am not mistaken I have a keyboard shortcut for this (as well
as for the majority of the OOoXXXXX styles, both para and character).

Cheers,

Michele :-D
