I notice this can happen when the list was created with a version of
OpenOffice.org prior 2.4 when ODF 1.2 was introduced.
The best course of action is unfortunately to copy the list in a new
document pasting as unformatted text and re-create the numbered list
from scratch.
If you have not done too much work yet, I can retract Ch7 of the calc
guide, update the bullet and numbered lists and re-upload it.
I have a cure that isn't quite as drastic but is about the same amount
of work.
1) Select the problem paragraphs and change their style to
OOoTextBody. (Usually I need to select the entire list, if any items
in the list are misbehaving.)
2) Right-click and choose Paragraph.
3) On the Outline & Numbering tab of the Paragraph dialog, set
Numbering Style to None. Click OK to save. This removes formatting
used in our earlier (v2) templates.
4) Now when you apply the numbering styles in the current (V3)
template, they should behave themselves.
However, you still need to manually restart a numbered list at 1. This
is working as designed, btw.
