We do not yet have an "authoritative" version. The one above is the
latest, and the best we have. It is probably "almost authoritative" but it
will have to go through a few more reviews before I feel confortable
saying that.

If you look in the writer guide folder:

You will notice a sub-folder called "pre-published chapters". This is
where we put the documents that have gone through extensive review, and
can be considered "done". The reason why we don't call them "published" is
because they are all based on a pre-release version of OOo 2.0.

It's alright, it's all new to you.

"Writer Basics" is the first chapter of the "Writer Guide". We are writing
one guide for each major component of OOo (Writer, Calc, etc) and one
general guide called "Getting Started". Because these documents are big,
they are divided into chapters, and each chapter is a separate file. We
then use a "master document" to pull them all together.

Does that help?

> How should we handle version numbers with respect to translation?

I don't think that they have to correspond at all. I think they should be
independent. That would also allow you to change the document in whichever
way you feel appropriate. It doesn't have to be an exact translation, I
don't think.

Thanks!
