So, i was thinking this should be added to the Using graphics in writer chapter, and I was going to add it, but I can't find any copies of it in either v2 folder. Has it been migrated from 1 - 2 yet?

It's in the Getting Started book. It has been updated to V2, but not moved to the new template. It needs to have a screenshot or two added to it. It's here:
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2-pdl/gettingstarted/FontWork.sxw/file_view

Why is the using graphics in writer guide in the getting started book? Why wouldn't that be in the Writer guide? Confused...

Sorry, I'm not being clear enough this morning, since I am in a rush to get ready to leave for the airport.

It's *fontwork* that is in the Getting Started guide. "Using Graphics in Writer" is definitely in the Writer Guide. AFAIK, it has not yet been updated for V2. That will be part of the rewrite.

I don't think it should go into a Writer chapter, because FontWork applies to more than Writer. But there isn't a logical chapter to add it to in Getting Started either. Perhaps it should remain a very small chapter of its own in GS.

Yes, but that is the same thing that I have thought about the drawing toolbar in the Calc chapter, but I thought we determined that some overlap is necessary, and Writer is where it is probably most often used.

The question of overlap is not one we've completely resolved. My thinking on this is evolving as more chapters of the books get written. I expect that after the initial release of the books, then we'll all do some rethinking of how to rationalise overlap, based on (a) feedback from readers (de facto usability testing) and (b) what we as a group think about it at the time.

Short of making a guide of common tools where things like Math, FootWork, Draw Toolbar would go, I don't know where else to put it.

What is the getting started guide? I thought it was a book with a quick and dirty chapter on each component? It seems to be turning into an entire user guide unto itself.

Maybe I missed the discussion, I just don't understand its place in the OOo Documentation Family.

It started out as "common features" and evolved. First it was just a retitled "common features" guide and then I added the intro chapters. It's still a bit of a hybrid, and will probably evolve more over the next year. I can give you the longer discussion of my thinking on this, but not right now. :-)

BTW, Daniel said he was planning to completely rewrite "Using Graphics in Writer", but I know that work has been delayed by his exams last week and this week. (For the same reason, we may not see a lot of him on this list this week.)

Hmm... I didn't think it was in need of a total re-write, but to each his own.

The problem is that the original author has agreed to the new copyright license. In the absence of the original author, the chaper needs to be rewritten. Otherwise, I agree that it's not in need of a total rewrite.
