My name is Tim Murray, from Roswell, Georgia, and am a writer by
trade. I'd like to volunteer for editing (English). I would do
writing, too, but first of all I'm using NeoOffice, and second, I
don't know the product well enough. But in any case, well, here I am.
Here are some steps for you to get started (borrowed from Linda W.):
<snip>
3. Download and install the latest stable release of OOo
(http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html). We use the stable
release for writing and reviewing chapters.
4. Download and install the latest development build (beta) of OOo
(http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html). This is the version we
are writing about. You need it for testing and screen captures.
Ummm... if Tim's running NeoOffice on the Mac, he can't really do those two
steps, though he can edit the docs in whatever the latest version of
NeoOffice is.
Tim, you can still be a valuable editorial resource by reviewing chapters
for clarity of explanations (esp. for newbies), logical development of
ideas, and all that sort of stuff, even though you can't check them against
the beta software itself.. In fact, if after doing some reviewing you
really want to get stuck into editing, I (as lead editor) need some people
to go through an entire book looking for consistency issues, missing
topics, and all sorts of stuff.
Cheers, Jean
