I don't see YOU proposing a lot of page designs.
That is true. I said on this list a week ago (before the
discussion about the new front page) that I have little time to
spare, and I said what my priorities were -- finishing the
chapters I am writing and editing other chapters.
I was not going to drop everything to spend a lot of time working
on something else, especially when it was moving along too
quickly for me to keep up with.
I simply did not have time, and do not have time, to spend
thinking about better ways to do this. If I had the time, I would
do so.
... instead of just saying "this is crap, you don't care about
usability" and not explaining what's wrong or offering a solution.
I did not say "you don't care about usability". I said "you *seem
to be* totally unaware" of the page's usability problems.
It's obvisous what to do with it, because the page
doesn't let you do much with it.
No. It is *not* obvious to everyone. That was my major point in
the first paragraph of my note.
The latest iteration (front8.html) is much better. Now if someone
does not understand the image map, or has graphics off, there are
links that they can recognise and use.
