Hello,
Jean is away and won't be in front of a computer for at least a day
(traveling back home). I thought I'd show you where the license
discussion left off. We were thinking of adding this to the user guide
folder:
<notice>
This is free documentation. You can distribute it under the terms of the
GPL, version 2 or later, or the Creative Commons Attribution license. In
addition, you may use them under the PDL as "original documentation".
Documents in other folders are under different licenses. Each folder
includes a notice for the applicable license.
</notice>
Where the words "GPL", "Creative Commons Attribution" and "PDL" are
links to the respective licenses. We also want to update the signup
page, but that one is trickier. We were thinking of something like:
<notice>
The documents on this site do not all have the same license. When
appropriate, the license is marked clearly. By registering and logging
in, you are also agreeing to release any content you add to a folder
under the license specified for that folder. Content in your home folder
is under any license you choose.
</notice>
It sounds simple, but trust me, it took us several reviews to reach a
point where it was simple and complete. I'd be interested to hear
opinions on this. I'll also wait for Jean to get home and comment before
chaging the website.
Cheers,
Daniel.
