Sorry, I just realised I didn't answer this in my previous note. I don't remember what are all the things that the Author role can do. I think of the Author role as "everything except the things only a Manager can do" -- such as assigning roles to other people.
I realise that's not much help. Probably there is a note from years ago somewhere in my note logs (or in the archives) that says what each role can do...
