[authors] Writer page styles do not stay saved in doc file format

After importing custom or OOo predefined styles from another odt file 
into a Writer file in the doc file format using the current OOo version 
(Windows), the file is (supposedly) saved and the new parameters and 
page styles appear to be loaded OK, according to the Stylist. However, 
after closing the file and reopening it, the page styles revert back, 
and the supposedly imported custom page styles do not even reappear in 
the Stylist. Has this behavior been around before? Is there some setting 
that needs to be enabled or something so that the imported page styles 
can be permanently retained in the donee file?
