I noticed that my ott template files weren't working as some published
OOo docs stated it would. So, I used an odt file for importing styles,
much like the OOoAuthors odt "template." The files other than the page
styles seemed to transfer OK into the doc format while the WG doc file
was saved but still open. When the WG-generated doc file was closed and
reopened, the custom page styles failed to reappear in the Stylist and
the predefined OOo page styles had reverted to their defaults.
I was wondering why my client mentioned late Friday that the custom
first page footer kept reappearing on all odd pages and the page numbers
would not reappear on the even pages when read on Word. (Worked fine in
odt.) But, I was under time pressure to get at more major items and
didn't have time to deal with it before the end of the workday.
Another thing, after importing the styles from the odt "template" into
either the odt or doc files, the donee page sometimes (usually always)
get set to the end of the file and cannot be scrolled back to the top.
However, I can save the file and then reopen it. The odt file is OK but
the doc file loses its page style information that was previously
present in the Stylist. The other categories of styles seem to be OK,
although I didn't exhaustively check each little detail. Only the page
styles are adversely affected.
How well does Writer's output work as input for Acrobat? Adobe states
that Acrobat 8 will work with any application that prints.

After importing custom or OOo predefined styles from another odt file
into a Writer file in the doc file format using the current OOo
version (Windows), the file is (supposedly) saved and the new
parameters and page styles appear to be loaded OK, according to the
Stylist. However, after closing the file and reopening it, the page
styles revert back, and the supposedly imported custom page styles do
not even reappear in the Stylist. Has this behavior been around
before? Is there some setting that needs to be enabled or something
so that the imported page styles can be permanently retained in the
donee file?
That's an interesting variation on some other behaviour I have seen
(over several versions of OOo), related to importing styles using the
Template Organizer. I don't think I've seen that particular problem
(supposedly imported custom page styles not even reappearing in the
Stylist), though.
How did you import the styles? Load Styles, or using the Template
Organizer? Regardless, I think it's a bug, not a setting that needs to
be enabled.
I didn't follow what you meant by "into a Writer file in the doc file
format".
