Gary, I have several things to suggest, but no time right now to collect my notes and thoughts and write even a disjointed list, much less intelligent comments. I'll start writing things down as I think of them and try to get back to you within 2 or 3 weeks.
We really need to look at the template not only in terms of the ODT/PDF files we are producing, but also for ease of conversion to other formats, so that what we produce can be reused as much as possible. I am only becoming aware of some of the issues involved; I've mentioned some in recent weeks but not in any organised or comprehensive manner.
Two topics we definitely need to add or clarify are the best way to create and insert graphics and their captions, taking into consideration things like conversion and reuse.
