Welcome, Walter! It is great to have you join us. I have now given you the Author role. Please tell the list a bit about your background in general and your experience with databases in particular.
My background is computers and writing. I've written stories since I could write and computer how-tos since I was about 11 (I'm 35). I've been in front of a computer since I was 7, writing programs.
I currently work in the IT department at a company in the United States financial services industry. Previously I worked at a helpdesk that supports Microsoft products for a wide variety of companies. At that company I got in to developing MS Access databases, including a database that I used to generate a monthly tips and tricks newsletter (which I also wrote the majority of).
Prior to that I worked with FileMaker Pro. At my current job I am developing/maintaining a couple databases (MS Access front with MS SQL back), though that really isn't my job's focus(unfortunately). I also have several MySQL databases at my website, particularly at http://codex.walteram.com/ which uses data from a MySQL database to display information about various programming projects I have been dabbling in.
Team-- Walter wrote the Database chapter (Ch7) in the "official" OOo User Guide... IMO one of the better chapters in that book. He also has
Thanks! It really does bring together many of my passions: writing, developing and databasing (3x5 cards were one of my favorite toys before we got our own computer).
Thanks for having me and I look forward to helping out. -- WalterAM http://www.walteram.com
