I'd like to contribute to the project. I've been using Openoffice.org

Can I have authoring rights please? I'd be interested in contributing
to the Calc manual if that is still needed.

Welcome, Richard!

We've been "desperately seeking" someone to finish writing -- or at least contribute to -- the Calc Guide, so you are extremely welcome!

The biggest priority, IMO, is to write (or finish writing) the missing chapters. The secondary priority is to update existing chapters, especially those which cover features that have changed dramatically since the chapters were written.

Perhaps after looking at what's been written, and determining how out of date some of it is, you may conclude that it's not worth spending a lot of effort on updating the chapters to 2.4. It might be more time-effective to go straight into writing for 3.0, as Gary suggests. But really that's up to you.

Also, if you think the Calc Guide could/should be reorganised or include different material, please feel free to suggest it on the list. Spreadsheets have never been in my area of expertise.

Oh, and if you're wondering who Gary and I are... I've recently "retired" after 5 years as lead editor for the books, though I keep popping up to do things now and then. Gary is the only other editor we have at the moment. He has mostly been looking after the Writer Guide, but works on the other books too.

Lastly, feel free to ask questions and/or suggest improvements to the website as well as the books. We know the website is often confusing to new members, and it may be a bit out of date in places too. As an all-volunteer group, we don't always get around to everything that needs doing.

Regards, Jean
