I joined the authors project, with a view to contributing in some small way.

My first thought was to see if there was anything I might be able to help with, in regard to the Base Guide. However, when I log in and select the link http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/database/outline_rev to the "Draft outline", I am redirected to http://oooauthors.org/insufficient_privileges <ttp://oooauthors.org/insufficient_privileges%22> It would seem that as a member of the project I am precluded from any link, whereby I can access any of these "secret ;)" ODF files. PDF does not appear to be a problem.

Can anyone please explain why this is?

Did you ever sign up for any level of membership? I just ran your email address through a search and came up with nothing. I would assume that being on the e-mail list would mean that you're a basic member, at least.

The next higher level would be an author-status member. Have you ever requested having an author status? BTW, if I or somebody else accesses the OOoAuthors Web site without signing in, many files/folders will be inaccessible/invisible.

Before "signing up" I read this page http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/resources/howto_author
From the link in the section "How to get the author role" I went to:
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/resources/howto_join
From the "Mailto:" [EMAIL PROTECTED] I sent a subscribe email and received a reply, with the subject line "Portal Membership Information", stating:

You have been registered as a member of OOoAuthors.org, which
allows you to personalize your view of the website and participate in
the community.
Visit us at http://oooauthors.org
Your login name and password are:

Other than a somewhat vague statement on the "howto_author" page there is nothing to suggest differing levels of membership, or any need to apply for such status.

If I am not registered as a member, why does the site allow me to log in and have my browser (Firefox 2.0.014) display a message to say that I am logged in and displays http://oooauthors.org/logged_out when I select "Log Out"?

After logging in I appear to be able to almost everything the site has to offer, with the exception of most (not all) ODF files.

As for not not finding me in a search I have just logged in and changed "My Preferences" to be "Listed in searches". So you should now find my membership under User Name: dbarton plus my real name and this email address.

I signed up to this mailing list separately, because I received no reply to a similar message I posted a few days ago. I had expected to be automatically subscribed to this list as part of becoming a member, at whatever level.
