You were known as a member, I just checked the member-list on
oooauthors.

For seeing and being able to edit the odt-files, you'll need to have
the author role. We changed this some time ago, because we had lots of
trouble with spam. I just gave you the author role. If you're currently
logged in, please log off and log in again, so that you can see the
changes.

I'm not sure, if Gary meant your login name on the oooauthors website
or if he did a search on this mailing list. If he did a search on the
mailing list, the setting you mentioned above would not have made any
difference.
